Three Great Remedies to Help You Kick The Keto Flu

The keto flu can be the hardest part of starting a keto diet. What can you do to beat it?

I recently wrapped up thirty days on a keto diet. If you’re unfamiliar, keto is a diet where you restrict your net carb intake to less than about 20-30 grams per day and get about 70% of your daily calorie intake from high fat foods like bone broth, fatty fish, avocados, coconut products and so on.

One of the biggest challenges of embarking on a keto diet, is the notorious keto flu.

It’s a collection of minor symptoms that occur during the first days of keto (or for some folk it may last up to a week) as your body adapts to the new diet. Symptoms vary but what is most commonly reported is nausea, headaches, fatigue and a general malaise. Interestingly for me, this time around I suffered a sore throat for about 48 hours, something I’ve never experienced before.

To help me ease through the transition, I began experimenting with a variety of different home remedies. So after a week of testing, here are my top three remedies to help you beat the dreaded keto flu:

Coming in at number three is sparkling water. I’m not sure if it’s because of the sore throat I had, but I finished one to two bottles of sparking water each day and found them to be extra refreshing. Another bonus is that sparkling water is a great palate cleanser while you’re trying to wolf down your avocado and smoked salmon omelette at lunch.

Number two is a keto-friendly electrolyte drink. There are many variations, but I used a recipe similar to this one here using fresh lemon juice, potassium chloride, Himalayan Sea salt, magnesium and monk fruit extract. On the afternoon of day two it really helped clear the brain fog.

And number one on the list is:

Bulletproof coffee! Yes I know Bulletproof coffee has it’s fair share of detractors but for me, it makes mornings on a keto diet something to look forward to. The Brain Octane Oil is a game changer and the enjoyment factor (if you like coffee, that is) is unparalleled. In fact, I don’t think I’ll ever do a keto diet again

without Bulletproof coffee in my pantry.

Even bacon does not match up.

I certainly hope this helps next time you decide to go keto. Got keto tips of your own? Drop them in the comments below.
